All About Doctor Who Toys
Doctor Who originally ran from 1963 to 1989. The program is about the adventures of the Doctor who is a time traveller and his spacecraft the TARDIS, an acronym for Time and Relative Dimensions in Space, that appears to be a 1950′s blue British police box. He and his companions face a variety of beings and help others in righting wrongs and improving lives. The British television series has created a new collection of action figures and Doctor Who toys.
One of his oldest antagonists are the Dalek race. These mutants resemble tanks in mechanical armor. They feel superior to all beings and want to exterminate them as they can be heard saying in their metallic voices. They are 5 inch action figures with a posable eye stalk mounted on a rotating dome. Their removable gunstalk contains a death ray and can be fitted with a projectile weapon. A robotic telescoping arm is also removable. You can get this in a remote controlled version, perfect to terrorize your pets.
Earth’s twin planet Mondas is where the Cybermen come from. They have altered themselves with artificial parts and have become a cold and calculating race that was once human. The 12 inch figure comes dressed in an undersuit with armor. The voice helmet has speech, sound and light effects.
The electronic screwdriver is another iconic Doctor Who device. It can open any door, lock or mechanical device for exploration or escape. It can repair equipment and be used as an offensive weapon. The toy has a secret UV pen and light to reveal secret writings. It has button activated sound effects and lights. Included are Grallifreyan notes, a secret code book and a spare ink nib.
The Face of Boe is a wise being from Boekind who is said to be billions of years old. When Doctor Who last saw him he was keeping Manhattan powered with his life force. The deluxe Face of Boe toy has an animated mouth and is 5 inches in height.
The 12 inch Clockwork Man wears a period costume and has a removable mask that emulates porcelain. Droids gone bad, faulty programming created a mutinous crew of ticking clockwork robots who took over their ship and used human parts to repair it. In search of their central computer, they opened a time portal to the 18th century in search of Madame de Pompadour of France as their ship was named after her. Under their masks are detailed clockwork mechanisms.
Life-sized plastic dummies, the Autons are automatons that were animated by Nestene Consciousness. This extraterrestrial, disembodied intelligence arrived in hollow plastic meteorites on Earth. Auto Plastics was the company that the Nestenes took over to manufacture their Auton shells in Spearhead. Deadly weapons are hidden in their hands that can vaporize or kill their victims. They look like mannequins typically but the more advanced model resembles a human other than the sheen to their skin and the lack of inflection in their voices. They come in a set of two 5 inch action figures.
Hundreds of Doctor Who toys have been created related to the show. There are pinball games, action figures, computer games, card games and board games. There are many more toys available other than the few mentioned here.
