Backlinking Importance For Search Engine Traffic
IF you’re a new marketer to the online scene, the importance of backlinking may be eluding you at this time.
What are backlinks? They are links that point to your central hub, site/blog. It you have a lot of links that point, then the search engines will find you and rate you accordingly by showing your content closer to the first search pages. There are two kinds of backlinks.
One-way backlinks are the kinds that go only in one direction such as those that leave your site going to another site or coming from another site.
The other type, the reciprocal backlink, goes to and from.
However, one-way links are much more valuable to a site in the eyes of search engines because they are so much harder to get.
Google is a good example as it keeps on growing and changing and has learned to look not only at keyword optimization but also at a site’s popularity which is largely defined by backlinks to the site.
That’s why a link coming from a site with a high page rank is considered by Google to be more important than one coming from one that has no rating at all.
So with that said, there is there is a specific strategy that one can follow to ensure that the links you create are from higher page rank sites.
You do have to pay attention to these points when backlinking:
*Use anchor text the right way. How? By making sure your anchor word is related to the place the link is pointing to. If “hammer” is your word don’t have your link going to content talking about “drills”
Choose sites that have a page rank above zero. There are several places you can create backlinks pointing to your site from:
1- Use article directories to submit articles to. Great ones are Ezinearticles and ArticleBase. They have a great page rank. 2-Bookmarking your content on Digg, Spurl, Mixx and Misterwong, all bookmarking services, will go a long way to creating good links. 3-Use blogs and forums to create great value driven content and you get a backlink as a bonus. 4-Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Linked and all social media sites offer you the opportunity for great backlinks.
