How I Instantly Improved My Inner Confidence
?What have been your most fulfilling accomplishments thus far in your life??
My mentor coach asked me this question some time ago and I have to admit, the answer did not come to me easily. However, when she asked me how I?d failed, I responded without hesitation.
Yes, I did bounce back from a debilitating illness that left me visually impaired. Yes, I did complete undergraduate business school and law school with academic and leadership scholarships that paid all my expenses. Yes, I did pass the bar exam the first time while being the visually impaired single mother of a toddler. Yes, I did step out on faith to follow my passions and pursue my life purpose to become a life coach, speaker, and soon an author. Yes, I?m raising a beautiful, intelligent daughter who is excelling in life because I?ve exposed her to many things and expect nothing but the best from her.
However, it never occurred to me to use any of these examples as answers to her question. After all, I was supposed to do those things.
What my mentor said next rocked my world. ?You were not supposed to do those things. You made choices to do these things. You had other options?
All of my life, I?ve seen success as something I was supposed to have. I was so focused on what I was supposed to be that I did not acknowledge who I am right now. I took full responsibility for my failures, but I never acknowledged the role I played in my successes.
You may be like me?so focused on achieving more that you ignore the great things you?ve already done.
I encourage you to identify the accomplishments you?ve already had in your life. If you have trouble with this, ask your friends/family what they think. Then identify the strengths and talents you used to achieve those accomplishments.
Don?t take your accomplishments for granted. Don?t dismiss the strengths, talents, and abilities you used to achieve your successes.
You choose to do the right thing, so celebrate!
