Various Voltage Measuring Equipments

People want to make sure if the power supplied to their homes by electrical service providers are 240V. For them to know this, they use instruments which measure the voltage level of the electricity which flows through the power lines.

These simple equipments which measures voltage are the neon-tester, analog volt meter, and the digital multimeter. These are simple instruments similar to those made by Triplett, Simpson, and Fluke, are guaranteed to gauge voltage levels.

If the only one wire is running and the voltage level is 120V then it is a 120V system. If 2 wires are running but the voltage between the wires is just 120V the system is still 120V. They have just split the flow of electricity to reproduce a copy of a 240V system.

If you plan to follow this procedure, I must warn you about the ASHI Standards of Practice. ASHI does not allow anyone to inspect and use tools on a service panel without the proper training on safety procedures.

I also tell you that this procedure is very dangerous. Because of this reason, this test is not a requirement but merely an option. No one will be allowed to test electrical equipment unless that person has gone safety training.

There are various tools in which you can use to test the flow of electricity and I will discuss them one by one. The ammeter is a device which measures current expressed in amperage. Next is the voltmeter which measures the voltage between two sources in a circuit. The neon tester shows if there is electricity flow and the ohm meter measures the resistance on a component which usually carries electricity.

The digital multi meter is one tool that is very impressive. It has all the functions of the ammeter, volt meter and the ohm meter combined. The last device that we will talk about is the continuity tester which tests the flow of the current through an electrical path.

If you want to test your service panel to measure the voltage level of power supplied by providers, I recommend that you use the service of professionals. Measuring voltage level is very risky and this is a procedure that is done by experts.
